Yoga, Yo-Fit,
Yo-Strength Yoga: The
style of yoga I use is derived
from the training I received at
yoga-fit, and is a combination
of the traditional Hatha yoga
poses and poses from other types
of yoga practices such as:
Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and
Viniyoga. The format is flowing
in nature, and includes a
warm-up and cool-down. Some of
the features and benefits of
this kind of yoga are: muscle
balancing, flexibility and
relaxation. The poses are safe,
easy to understand, and are
designed with all populations in
mind, independent of age and
fitness level. This yoga style
was created to use in health
clubs or fitness studios.
Yo-Fit: Exercise
experts often promote the need
for individuals to diversify
their workout routine in order
to achieve optimum fitness
growth. Yo-Fit is exactly that:
a diverse group of exercises and
poses put together to challenge
the body and create the most
optimum fitness growth possible
for each particular individual.
The Yo-Fit workout includes the
use of cardio equipment such as:
the treadmill, the elliptical,
the stationary bike, as well as
the jump rope, and other cardio
exercises, with free weights,
dyna-bands, and weight machines,
interspersed with yoga poses
held for a period of time, to
further enhance the quality of
the person’s workout and
physique. Yo-Fit encompasses all
the major fitness components
necessary to look and feel good
inside and out: cardiovascular
endurance, muscular endurance
and strength, and flexibility.
Yo-Strength: Yo-Strength
is an exercise form I developed
which allows the client to do
exercises using hand held
weights while performing yoga
poses. Iyengar yoga works
especially well for this unique
type of workout, because it
encourages good alignment,
perfecting poses, long holds,
and often uses props; the props
in this case being the hand
weights. Also, since yoga
promotes isometric contractions
(opposing muscles are very
contracted, and there is minimum
shortening, but a great increase
in tone of muscle fibers is
involved) I thought the use of
hand weights would be a
wonderful addition to this
stimulating workout routine. Yo-Strength
is a great option for people who
enjoy a mind/muscle connection!
